An appropriate strategy for the sustainable management of forests, including adaptation to climate Change and promotion of co-benefits will increase the contribution of the forest ecosystems to climate Change mitigation and strengthen their resilience to the Impacts of climate change. As forests are at the core of sustainable development of many countries, it is pivotal that the related policies and measures are based on a forest vision, which is deeply rooted in the society and actively supported by the respective stakeholders. This support, delivered as grant, therefore aims at achieving positive impacts in climate change adaptation and mitigation through sustainable forest management activities in the Caucasus Region, building an strong prior cooperation. Support will be granted for - systematic analysis of the baseline CO2 (and non-CO2) emissions associated to forest land use and land use change, forest vegetation types, carbon pools, etc., - analysis of best practices on sustainable forest management to derive climate change mitigation activities, - capacity building, on-site trainings and participatory pilot activities to increase resilience to climate change and the carbon storage potential of forests, - development of recommendations that contribute to national policies and strategies in the field of climate change impacts on forests.
