The CCCCC is a key component in providing information on climate change issues and on the region’s response to managing and adapting to climate change in the Caribbean.
It provides climate change-related policy advice and guidelines to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States through the CARICOM Secretariat and to the UK Caribbean Overseas Territories. It also acts as the archive and clearinghouse for regional climate change data and documentation.
AREAS OF SUPPORT
CCCCC’s primary work is focused on climate change adaptation. In 2009, the Centre had been instrumental in CARICOM’s adoption of the regional strategy for climate change. The strategy will be implemented by different actors coming from various institutions and will be implemented from 2011 to 2021.
To the extent possible, CCCCC provides tools and methods to its member states, to ensure application of best available science.
PROGRAMME
The Caribbean Climate Online Risk and Adaptation tool (CCORAL) is an online support system for climate resilient decision making. It is a system which helps decision makers to see all kinds of activities through a ‘climate’ or ‘climate change’ lens, and to identify actions that minimize climate related loss, take advantage of opportunities and build climate resilient development in their countries.
