1. Strengthening gender considerations in adaptation planning and implementation in the least developed countries
The main focus of this paper is to provide views and experiences on strengthening gender consideration in adaptation planning and implementation in the least developed countries (LDCs). It draws on the experiences gained from the national adaptation programmes of action (NAPAs), and other initiatives, with a view to informing future adaptation efforts by LDCs and collaborating partners in the formulation and implementation of national adaptation plans. The paper discusses gender in the context of adaptation to climate change, presents sample tools in integrating gender into adaptation planning and implementation provides experiences in the integration of gender into adaptation planning and implementation and addresses the integration of gender considerations in the process to formulate and implement NAPs.

2. Regional synergy in addressing adaptation through the national adaptation programmes of action and the process to formulate and implement national adaptation plans in the least developed countries.
The paper presents the rationale for regional synergy in addressing adaptation, and the institutional arrangements established under the Convention to support or promote regional synergy in the least developed countries (LDCs). It presents experiences from the least developed countries (LDCs) on regional synergy in the preparation and implementation of national adaptation programmes of action (NAPAs), and proposes possible considerations for exploring regional synergy in the formulation and implementation of national adaptation plans (NAPs). It further provides examples of relevant actors and initiatives in different regions that could provide opportunities for exploring or enhancing regional synergy in adaptation, including barriers to regional synergy.

3. Information paper on how the process to formulate and implement national adaptation plans can be supported in least developed countries.
This paper presents information on the support to least developed countries (LDCs) on the process to formulate and implement national adaptation plans (NAPs) in terms of type of support (technical, capacity-building, technological and financial), and how such support is provided by bodies under the Convention the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG), Adaptation Committee, Technology Executive Committee (TEC), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and other sources.
It also includes references to the NAP Global Support Programme for the LDCs and the NAP Global Network. It is important to note that financial and technical support and capacity-building can also be explored from various organizations including United Nations organizations, specialized agencies and other relevant organizations, bilateral and multilateral agencies. The paper is intended to provide information to various entities on how the process to formulate and implement NAPs can be supported in the LDCs.

4. Best practices and lessons learned in addressing adaptation in least developed countries
This publication, which is the third volume in the series, builds on the first and the second volumes and communicates initial experiences, best practices and lessons learned by the LDCs and other developing countries on the process to formulate and implement NAPs. It features the countries’ best practices and lessons learned around eight focus areas critical for the initial stages of the process.
The eight focus areas are:
- Initiating and launching of the national adaptation plan process;
- Putting in place an explicit mandate for the process to formulate and implement national adaptation plans;
- Developing a road map for the process to formulate and implement NAPs
- Integrating adaptation into development planning from the onset;
- Establishing effective institutional arrangements;
- Effectively engaging stakeholders: identification, involvement and inclusion;
- Assessing and managing climate risk and vulnerability;
- Addressing capacity gaps and needs in the process to formulate and implement NAPs.

Monitoring and assessing progress, effectiveness and gaps under the process to formulate and implement National Adaptation Plans: The PEG M&E ToolThere are multiple approaches and methodologies to deal with M&E of adaptation. As more and more governments are moving towards development and implementation of adaptation plans and policies, a generic approach/tool for M&E at the national level is vital to track the impact of climate change adaptation uniformly. The PEG M&E tool paper is an initiative in this direction and is developed following some basic assumptions in the process to formulate and implement NAPs.
