The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) was established in 1998 under an initiative of the Government of Japan to contribute to the development of innovative policy instruments and environmental strategies to assist countries in the Asia-Pacific region achieve sustainable development. IGES aims to build knowledge and capacities for integrated approaches to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction to reduce vulnerability to climate change in the Asia-Pacific region.
