NAP Description: Made up of 25 national, regional and international organizations, the expert group aims to strengthen action on biodiversity and climate change adaptation under the UNFCCC process.
NAP Summary:
Page Content: The expert group can help address key knowledge gaps by cross-collaborating with other members, the UNFCCC constituted bodies, other NWP thematic expert groups and relevant communities of practice.
The expert group follows these key principles in undertaking their role:
Be demand driven to ensure that the collaborative actions are meaningful and responsive to the needs of Parties and constituted bodies.
Have a long-term strategy that facilitate and support the implementation of adaptation and resilience actions in an inclusive and participatory manner.
Promote the exchange of information, experience, challenges and best practice to a broad range of adaptation and mitigation stakeholders.
Increase the role of the expert group by engaging with relevant processes outside the UNFCCC processes.
Composition

The selection criteria for the multidisciplinary thematic expert group members ensure a regional and gender balance, balance in expertise and perspective on the specific thematic areas. This includes:

Type of organization (CSO, INGO, UN, IPO, etc.)
Technical experience and area of specialization
Representation of the least developed countries, SIDS and other developing countries
Equal gender representation.
The role of expert group is to:

Provide technical inputs and feedback to the thematic scoping paper (which responds to knowledge needs of Parties)
Support the design and implementation of actions and produce demand-driven knowledge products in response to identified knowledge gaps from the scoping paper. The actions will also support the needs of constituted bodies.
Assist with the design and organization of the NWP’s mandated event at COP, called the Focal Point Forum.
Engage with the secretariat to organize and/participate in events which promote outcomes, outputs and progress to-date.
The composition of the expert group on biodiversity is noted in the table below, outlining the organization, the expert representative and their location.
